The perfect crème caramel

Being Filipino, one of my favourite desserts has to be crème caramel (or leche flan as we call it back home). A few years ago one of my aunts gave me a recipe for it, which I've tried once. Why I never tried again, I cannot remember.

In 2014, mum and I spent a few days in Cambridge - unfortunately there was no punting involved! There was, however a lot of good food (more on them another time), and spectacular weather! An especially memorable dish was a crème caramel that I had in Cotê Brasserie.

Côte's crème caramel ticks all the boxes for me: smooth, bubble-free, and served with both (!) dark caramel and cream. It also isn't especially expensive, for how good it is. According to their website menu it currently costs £5.50. For a chain restaurant, they do really decent food - see these reviews (which also highlight Côte's amazing crème caramel hehehe). I realise this sounds like an advert to go eat at Côte, but really, it isn't! I think it's more a little nudge for me to go and pay them a visit, if not a nudge to dig up my aunt's version of crème caramel and have another go! I won't be visiting Côte in Cambridge, unfortunately, but just down my local high street. Lucky to be living near one, I guess!

If you are a crème caramel aficionado, please do share your favourite recipe (if it isn't a well-guarded secret), or restaurant or café to have it below!
